The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

I have a exchange server with a pop 3 connector in a sbs 2003 enviroment. So I have one user created on both pop3 and exchange server with different e-mail accounts eg For user ted I have ted@exhange.com that is on both exchange and pop3 and then I have another e-mail address for ted which is teddy@exchange.com.The teddy@exchange.com address resides on the pop3 server, when I send a e-mail to the pop3 account(teddy@exchange.com) from my exchange server side I receive the following error.

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

      Teddy on 7/25/2007 5:17 PM
There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's email server.  Please contact your system administrator.
<exchange.com #5.5.0 smtp;550 <IMCEAex-_O=Exchange_OU=FIRST+20ADMINISTRATIVE+20GROUP_CN=RECIPIENTS_CN=teddy@exchange.com>: Recipient address rejected: User unknown in virtual mailbox table>

And if I send an e-mail to the pop 3 account from my gmail account he receives the mail.

P.S Everything was working fine I and nothing changed.

I think its a DNS problem,

Goto www.dnsstuff.com and to a mail test, it should be under tools.

I assuming pop3 as pop3 server(ex:VPOP3)
Why are using exchange and pop3 for the same domain.
When you are sending from exchange to teddy@exchange.com.Its checks for that email address in the exchange server because it think that it is reponsible for domain exchange.com, if it can't finf then it rejects the email.Thats what is happening in your case. But when you sending it externally from gmail.both the exchange and pop3 which has got email address claims it and sends the email to the recipient.
