Visual Studio .NET 2005 Document Explorer Installation Problem

I'm trying to install Visual Studio .NET 2005 on my XP Pro work PC and I'm having all sorts of problems getting the installation to complete. Everything appears to be going well until the installation routine reaches the Document Explorer component. At that point the file copy process stops & then the installation rolls back with a reference to the installtion log file. Having trawled through the hefty log file I can't find any conclusive reference as to why the install of Document Explorer failed. I've attempted the stand alone installation of Document Explorer but the same problems occurs and the installation mysteriously rolls back and fails.

My work PC is part of a domain to which I have administrator rights. I've also tried the same installation of VS on my home PC with the same results.

Has anyone experienced the same difficulties & found a solution??

Did you try this with more than one installation disk?
Perhaps the installation disk has some errors, that is just bad news cause then the error will jump in during the installation on all computers you try to install vs 2005 on.

Perhaps you can try different installation media.

Have tried installing VS from two different types of media. The first was from CD which was created from a downloaded iso image file & the second was from a Microsoft DVD sent thorugh as part of my MSDN developers kit. Results were the same in both cases.

Maybe you can help the installation a bit.
try to install all the service packs and updates of the .net framework before installing vs.net

and to continue...

Try the folowing things:
Delete the contents of the Temp folder
1.      Click Start, click Run, type %temp%, and then click OK. This command opens the Temp folder.
2.      Delete the contents of this folder. If any items are important and should not be deleted, move these items to another folder.

Stop all nonessential services and applications
"      Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows Server 2003

Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 have a utility that is named MSConfig. This utility prevents services and applications from starting when you install Visual Studio 2005

Use the Local Administrator account

Do you have any previous versions of visual studio on your pc?
Beta versions and more of that things?

If so, remove them manualy.....!!!
Go over your system to be sure that they are removed, this can cause the installation to stop....

Hope this helps!

What does it mean to be "Always On"?

Is your cloud always on? With an Always On cloud you won't have to worry about downtime for maintenance or software application code updates, ensuring that your bottom line isn't affected.

I tried most of the options you suggested without success but in the end I bought a new work PC (Which was due anyway) & made sure that I installed VS first. Sure enough there were no problems with the installation. I think the underlying cause may have been a conflict with a Borland compiler that was already installed on both my home and old work PC's. The Borland compiler is the only thing that's different between the PC's that I had a problem installing VS on & the ones that I didn't.

Having said all that I'll award you the points anyway for your help & the fact that you were the only person that took the time to respond.

Thanks.
