When trying to copy a contact from the global address list (GAL) to my
local contacts folder, I get the error: "Some names could not be added
to Contacts. The action could not be completed."

Does anyone know what might be wrong here? I know this error has been
reported before, though I could find no solution to the problem.

Hi tunheim,

How are you copying the contact?
Can you add the contact in OWA? Try this to check permissions.
Can yoiu open your Contacts, click New Contact and add it from there?

Try this.
Create a new profile. You don't have to remove your existing profile. Just create a new one and choose prompt to use profile.
1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double click the mail icon. If you do not see the mail icon, click Switch to Classic View.
3. In the Mail Setup dialog box, click Show Profiles.
4. On the General tab, click Prompt for a profile to be used, and then click Add.
5. Type in a name for the new profile in and then click OK.
6. In the E-mail Accounts dialog box, click Add a new e-mail account, and then click Next.
7. Click the appropriate server type for your new e-mail account, and then click Next.
8. Type your account information in the required boxes, and then click Next.
9. Click Finish, and then click OK.
10. Choose Prompt to use profile.

Let us know how you do,
cheers,
frankco

>How are you copying the contact?
Opening Outlook.
Opening the Address Book.
Right click a contact and choosing "Add to contacts".

>Can you add the contact in OWA? Try this to check permissions.
I am unable to find this option in Outlook Web Access (OWA). Is OWA supposed to support the copying og contacts from the Global Address List to the local Contacts folder?

>Can yoiu open your Contacts, click New Contact and add it from there?
By entering the data manually? Yes, I can do that.

(I'm on to try the rest of your instructions, but I just wanted to save this)

After doing this, everything works without a glitch. Though I'm completely clueless as to why it now works.

Hi tunheim,

There must have been a corrupt file or registry setting that your old profile was using.
Creating a new profile replaces a lot files and fixes registery settings. It's hard to tell what was causing the problem. This method has more of a  "shot gun" affect. If I had to guess, it was one of these files: extend.dat, outcmd.dat, frmcache.dat or views.dat. which are the cached files Outlook uses.

Thank you for the points and grade!
Take care,
frankco
