CHECKPOINT OS decision Secure platform or Win 2003 server ?

Guys,

I need some advice on a Checkpoint NGX R65 Instillation. Which operating system do you recommend ? I have the choices of Secure Platform or windows 2003 server. Any comments and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I  recommend to you   SecurePlatform:

1,.   no need a extra lincence of windows 2003  because
2.-   You have more options with secureplatform like  vlans,  dynamic routing,
3.-   A lot of  more performance in the same  PC
4.-   You can  make  backup and  snapshot  very quicky and easy
5.-   In the world of security  is  more nice to have  linux  that  windows  :)
6.-   When  you  like to upgrade to a newer  version  is  more easy and  stable  that  windows
7.-   In windows you need  install security  patches  each month  and  reboot the  machine

I  only  chose  windows  if you  PC  ins not compatible with secureplatform   or  if you have a special  board  what only have drives for  windows (like   SAN, storage)

SecurePlatform is a good choice too. It's much faster at processing packets than Windows, and since it's also from Check Point, you'll get better support (than if Windows tech support were passing blame to Check Point FireWall-1, and vice-versa).

yep - i agree with the above - windows is a bad choice unless you're really desparate. One BIG advantage of this is that if your installation goes pear-shaped then a reinstall of SPLAT takes about 20 mins and then you restore from backup. That beats 90 mins of setting windows up and multiple reboots, hotfixes etc etc
