Visual Studio 2005 what is AspNetSqlProvider ?

Experts I have just started using visual studio 2005 and there are a lot of new utilities that I am not use to.  I opened up the website administration tool.  To my knowledge, this page configures the web.config file, so that the user doesn't have to know the tags reguired.  What confuses me is when I clicked Provider, what does this mean, and what is AspNetSqlProvider?

    The AspNetSqlProvider is what stores the membership (users), roles, provider information.  This defaults to an SQL Express database in your App_Data directory.   For other options, I suggest reading this page ...
