i already have class diagrams in star uml..and i just need to transfer the diagrams to rational rose..but the method u told me..did not work
Were you able to export to XMI? If so, what happened when you tried to import it?

when i tried to export to XMI and import on rose..the diagrams looked different..it does not look the same as the diagram in star uml
The information is probably all there - you need to adjust Rose's options to show the details you want to see. Also, be aware that you will have to make the diagrams look as you want - XMI does not carry over exact locations (i.e. you may have to move things around).
Try opening some of the objects to see if you descriptions, methods, attributes, ... are all there. If the relationships make it over (I don't know how good StarUML does in its exports), Rose will show the relationships.

And BTW, a free UML tool that is better IMO than StarUML is ArgoUML - more capabilities, better quality.
