Windows 2003 SBS "service pack 2 setup error failed to install catalog files"

Windows 2003 SBS x86

Error installing Service Pack 2 "service pack 2 setup error failed to install catalog files."

done a bit of research on the net and it appears its possibly a problem that there are simply too many catalogue files  100> as the machine has been update with individual updates rather that for exampe just SP1. I've folled through some other suggestions on the net but nothings working for me, does anyone else have this problem or indeed an answer?

Yep... have seen that problem a number of times.

But to clarify something... are you saying that you have NOT installed SP1?  If so, you need to do that first.  While Service Packs are normally cumulative, SBS is a bit tricky because of the multiple components.

So... please follow the exact steps to install all 5 components of SP1 which you'll find here;  http://sbsurl.com/sp1

Then once that's complete you can apply SP2.   But be sure to review all the issues related to SP2:  http://sbsurl.com/sp2

I'm a bit confused by your comment... since my advice was to install SP1 and then SP2.  So what part did you resolve by yourself?

Just curious.
