A serious error has been detected and Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard cannot continue.

I just configured a brand new computer.  XP SP2 with all the updates installed.  Everything works except Adobe Acrobat 8
I get the following error
A serious error has been detected and Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard cannot continue. Please reinstall the application and try again. occured, re-install the program

I have removed the app and reinstalled it.  Has anyone ever seen this before?

Hi ourguru

First update to the latest version if not already done so, go to Help menu >check for updates.

Then go to RUN from start menu and type msconfig, on startup tab select disable all.

Reboot, and try Acrobat again, if it works now, enable startup items until you find the culprit. If it doesn't disable your AV software and check whether this causes a conflict (McAfee has done this on my old machine on Acrobat 6 once).

hope this helps
