How to upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.0 on a iPAQ hx2490

I have a HP iPAQ hx2490 (with bluetooth) running Windows CE 5.0. I was synching this with a WindowsXP box with ActiveSync through USB connectivity.

I recently bought a laptop  with Windows Vista Home Premium. I take it that you no longer can use Activesync with Vista and have to use Windows Mobile Device Centre instead.   I can get the iPAQ to talk to the laptop through Bluetooth. But it would not appear in the Mobile Device Centre. I think you need to run Windows Mobile 6.0 on the device for this to happen.

So, if the above is the case, how can I upgrade the iPAQ to Windows Mobile 6.0?

Thanks heaps.

Well if you ask HP, i think their answer will be that right now you can't but maybe there is a hack i don't know about.

    Accepted Solution

You cannot. HP is the only one that can release it. MS gives Updates to all vendors and it is the vendors choice to release the update. HP's history does not look positive for what you want. There philosophy is that if you want the newer OS then buy our newer product. HP's customers base have responded with going to other vendors such as HTC.
