Microsoft .NET Framework v1.0.3705 Update preventing entering standby...

I am getting a "System Standby Failed" error message when I try to put system
in standby mode.
The full length message is: The service 'Microsoft .NET
Framework v1.0.3705 Update' is preventing the machine from entering standby.
Try stopping this service and try again.

Any suggestions? I tried to find anything helpful on the web and the
Microsoft site but without any success. Help?!

Is upgrading an option?  1.0 is a seriously buggy version of the .NET framework!!

If I upgrade, will this annoying message go away??  What's the cost to upgrade?
Nothing, if you get the Visual Studio.NET 2005 Express Edition:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/vb/

Keep in mind that 2005 is significantly different than the 2002 version (1.0).  You always have to factor in the cost of upgrading, and learning new things.  I would definitely suggest this though.  I call 2002 the Yugo of the .NET world, 2003 the Ford Taurus, and 2005 is the Lexus.

There is a different 2005, depending on whether you want VB.NET, C#, or Visual Web Developer.

BTW, I can't promise you that the annoying message will go away right away, because I don't know what the exact context for it is.  But, I feel confident that a way can be found.

Thanks for the quick responses. BTW, I recently installed SQL Express 2005, and I believe that's when my problems started.  I noticed this was one of the options on the vstudio site. Is there a SP or upgrade for it? Do you think it would help?

Sorry, what am I missing?  How does installing this SQL server help to solve the problem?  I tried that and the situation is still the same.  I tried downloading the dotnetfx.exe redistribution package and re-installing but that has not worked.  Right now I'm uninstalling .net 3, 2, then 1 hoping to be able to reinstall all of them but I think I alrady tried that once!

My problem I think started when I uninstalled Norton Antivirus.  Is there any known reason that particular uninstall would mess up .net?  I even did a system restore... and uninstalled Norton... and ended up with the same problem again.

Why do I want to uninstall Norton?  I think it is a rather bloated piece of software and I'm becoming disenchanted by it.  But the real reason is that my d-link DSM-520 meda player / media server is blocked by Norton's firewall and I can't seem to get past it.  Uninstalling, I can stream to my DSM-520... but I cannot put my computer to sleep anymore because of the .NET problem!

By the way, I have a HP Digital Entertainment Center Z556 running Wnidows Media Center Edition.

Hope you can hep more? Thanks,
Update: I uninstalled all my .net framework.  I found a tool to help do a clean uninstallation here: http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2004/09/08/227118.aspx

I was able to reinstall the .net framework 1 from dotnetfx.exe but the problem persists.
