Problem installing fedora Core 5 on pc with sata hd and dvdrw

Hello EE,  I have almost the same problem as the one below  which i found when I searched my problem.

It was listed as an X windows question and the accepted solution pointed out it had nothing to do with x windows.

My problem
 is same as below except
I am trying fedora core 5
my system is

Fujitsu siemens Esprimo 2510
1gb ram, duo core processor, 120gb sata , sata dvdrw

So I boot no problems and it goes to exactly the menus as below.
1)  boot-up the computer with the x86 Fedora Core 5 DVD in the drive and it reads the disk fine and brings me to the start of the installation.

2) MENU: Choose a Language
  * I chose 'English'

3) MENU: Keyboard Type
  * I chose 'us'

4) MENU: Installation Method
What type of media contains the package to be installed?
  Local CDROM
  Hard Drive
  NFS Image
  FTP
  HTTP
* I chose 'Local CDROM.' However when I installed this same version of Linux on another system with IDE Drives this menu never came up. It just went straigt to the anaconda installation program. Why did this menu come up on this system?

5) MENU: No driver found
Unable to find any devices of the type needed for this installation type. Would you like to manually select your driver or use a driver disk?

How do I load the driver it needs?

Original question below:-
-----------------------------------

 Question:  This question is very simlar to "Problems installing Fedora Core (No SATA driver found)," except that no RAID is involved.

I have an Intel Core 2 Duo on the Intel DG965RYCK motherboard, and I am trying to install Linux/Fedora core 6.

Computer Specs:
Motherboard: Intel DG965RYCK
Processor: Core 2 Duo, 2.4ghz
HD: 160gb SATA

When I load disc 1 of the fedora distribution and launch I go through (quoting from itcdr):

1) I boot-up the computer with the x86_64 Fedora Core 4 CD DISK 1 in the drive and it reads the disk fine and brings me to the start of the installation.

2) MENU: Choose a Language
  * I chose 'English'

3) MENU: Keyboard Type
  * I chose 'us'

4) MENU: Installation Method
What type of media contains the package to be installed?
  Local CDROM
  Hard Drive
  NFS Image
  FTP
  HTTP
* I chose 'Local CDROM.' However when I installed this same version of Linux on another system this menu never came up. It just went straigt to the anaconda installation program. Why did this menu come up on this system?

5) MENU: No driver found
Unable to find any devices of the type needed for this installation type. Would you like to manually select your driver or use a driver disk?

Questions:    What device is it not finding the driver for, the disk, the CDROM, other ?
What do I do ?

Thanks
Brian

You could try Fedora 7. I don't think the older Fedora's will have SATA CD Drivers.

Sounds like Fedora doesn't have a compatible SATA module for your particular board, hence it can't find the dvd or hard drives. Sure it will boot initially because the BIOS is in charge of that, but to actually do any mounting itself it needs the driver loaded.

My suggestion? Use a distro that isn't out of date! Fedora 5 was released quite some time back. Get a copy of Fedora 7 if you like the distro. Personally I prefer SuSE :)

Search ebay for Fedora 7 if you do not want to download it. Usually only £1 to £2 for a CD copy.

Hi All.  thanks for the quick responses.  Here is what I did.  I got fedora 7.  and popped it into the drive and rebooted.  results below

Hello Experts.  I recently found that my bios allows me to boot my pc in sata compatible mode which essentially allows o/s to see the sata drive as  an IDE drive.  I did this and the fedora 5 problem with sata is gone.
So problem is now fixed.
