i look after all IT issues for a small recruitment company and they run DIFF backups Monday night to Thursday night and a FULL backup Friday night - Sunday night.  Backups have been fine for at least 6 months if not more and there is a staff member who swaps out the tapes for me as manage their server remotely.

I looked at the backups today and i noticed the last 7 backups have been all cancelled. Nobody has the domain administrator password except me and nobody has access to login into the server except me and I have not cancelled these backups.  I looked at the properties of my both the DIFF and the FULL backup jobs and i cannot see anything that would have cancelled the jobs.

I logs show this:

The job was canceled because the response to a media request alert was Cancel, or because the alert was configured to automatically respond with Cancel, or because the Backup Exec Job Engine service was stopped.

Where can i check if the response is cancel and can i change this?? The person who swaps out the tapes for me on a Friday and Monday have never missed a day and they swapped out the swap last Friday as usual and will be swapping out the tapes again tonight so Mondays backup (tonight) can run...

I'm very curious to why my backups are cancelled.

Please advise.

    Accepted Solution

Check to make sure that you do not have the Automatic Response to the Alert for Library Media Insert set to Cancel
if backup spans over multiple tapes it throws an Alert for another Overwritable Tape.
we ca set rautomatic response to the alerts.
so if its set to respond with a Cancel(it can be set as OK,YES,CANCEL) then the job will automatically get cancelled whenever it asks for another tape
