MS Exchange 2000 : Recipient address rejected: User unknown in relay recipient table

I run MS Windows 2000 Exchange Server.
Just added two users and created mailboxes for them, Logged on as well so mailbox is created.
There are mx records for this.
I have run the RECIPIENT UPDATE Service and REBUILT the tables as well.
But sending mail from outside to these mailboxes results in this error message:
 PERM_FAILURE: SMTP Error (state 13): 550 : Recipient address rejected: User unknown in relay recipient table

Anyone know of an answer?

Best Regards,

Can you send email internally? Are these users the only ones on the MX records? Otherwise, can you send to other users with this MX?

Hello peakpeak;
replies to both your questions: positive and positive
That is not an Exchange message. Therefore it is being caused by something else.
Do emails come in directly or through another server/appliance/application? If so you need to look there for the error.

If those two users are the only ones using the MX record, then I'd suggest looking at this DNS issue with NSLookup or try http://www.dnsstuff.com/ (you have to scroll down a bit). Select Email test.
