have a 15GB 1st gen ipod. it came with a firewire attachment. BUT....i can only sync it using a usb attachment. BUT...the battery doesnt last long enough to sync the thing, and crashes pretty easily. When i go to restore the whole thing using iTunes, it says it can only format using the firewire....which when hooked up to, doesnt recognize the ipod via itunes.<br />

any suggestions. thinking along the lines of needing to install the older software.<br />
