Came in this morning and some people could not see any email from last week and some could not see some emails from last week.  I realized that someone had removed the log files... We restored the log files and now we can see them in the message tracking area.  My question:  Is there any way that we can restore this mail without going back to a a previous version of the mailstore?

Hmm,
Someone pulling some log files out of the directory doesn't result in email going missing. Unless something is horrifically wrong those log files are there so that you can restore a previous backup of the store and then play the logs forward.

Someone seems to have been messing around more than you know.

So what can I check?  I cannot figure out what caused this...  No errors in the error log related to this.
I appreciate the quick response!

If you've got email missing AND someone has mucked bout with logs then the problem should be detectable from backup and restore logs. There should also be something in the event logs, even if they're not errors.

So, digging further into this it seams that most everyone is having some sort of issue.
The issue is definately missing mail.  Some say that they actually saw the mail over the weekend and now it is gone.  Some actually have the email on their Windows Mobile devices but it does not show up in their inbox.  Does this change anything for you?  The only one missing the full week of email is the one that was on vacation last week and she said she did not check mail from a computer the entire week but the mail was on her mobile device.

In the absense of anything technical I'm still suggesting that someone has been on the box.

The fact remains that the log files are a potential red herring for you because the way it works is that transactions (mail) coming in or going out of your server are written to a transaction log "edbxxxxx.log" and then those transactions are written to the store. There is a checkpoint file that keeps an eye on where down the log (think of it like a ladder) the commital to the database has got. So, the log files being taken out of the store doesn't necessarily mean that mail vanishes and certainly if your server is healthy AND nice and quiet over the weekend you shouldn't have the problem.

Have you any idea who/what took the logs away? Knowing that might direct you towards a candidate.

I have searched and searched and cannot find anything that looks like foul play.  That does not mean that I have not ruled it out :)...  I have conacted some people that I know that can tell me this one way or another and also having someone come it to help reslove this issue.  I will let you know how it goes.  Again... Thanks for the quick responses!  I will give an update when I find something else out.
