Can't edit system varibles

I need a user account with admin privliges to be able to edit the system varibles. The problem is the account works on some computers but not on others. There are 20+ identical computers on a network. What would cause the sytem properties to be different? The OS is XP Pro.

If the account is not a domain, there's nothing to centralize the accounts.  That means you won't necessarily have everything the same on the network.

Why you need admin priviliges at all ?
For me, I'll be going old-fashioned way: using SET in login script.
So this will give you needed env variables during user's session.
