What exactly are the message tracking logs?
I have 3 Exchange 2003 servers when I look at the properties I have enabled message tracking. Each day a log is made for each of the servers at 7:00 PM each night. They are always labled whatever night they are made...for example 20070725.log My question is this What exactly are the message tracking logs? Why do I need them? They are building up and I am trying to figure if I need to keep all of them.

I wouldn't keep them more than 30 days -- unless I had some special purpose for retaining them any longer.
Have you ever been asked for details on whether an email was delivered that long ago? If not, then they are pointless to retain. Most people are interested after 30 days.

No I have not been asked. I have run this by my bosses and told them what all of you have said. I work for the State of Oklahoma and have been basicly thrown into the fire when it comes to exchange. We are looking into if there are any legal reasons why we would be required to keep these logs. if not we will be going to 30 days most likely.
