SBS 2003 freezes every hour

I am using SBC 2003 and our server is doing something every hour to the minute that causes the entire system to slow down. We can't access our Point of Sale system until the server is done doing whatever it is doing. This usually takes 4 or 5 minutes. I shut down our virus protection software and check the resources but never see anything using all of the resourses.

Philip ElderTechnical Architect - HA/Compute/StorageCommented:
Check the schedule for the Volume Shadow Copy services.

Right click on each of your partitions-->properties-->Shadow Copies.

Check and see if one of the Shadow Copies is set to run every hour. If it is, change it to an off hour schedule so as to not labour the server during business hours.

Unfortunatly it is set to weekly.

Go to the Scheduled Tasks list and check for any tasks that are being run every hour.

There is a task or service scheduled to run on that hour that is interfering with the server's operation.

Check the server's logs at those times to verify if any services log a change at that time.

What services are installed on the server as far as A/V, Spam, database, etc.?

Hi Philip,
You are the man. The problem was that it was running "Collect Server Performance" every hour.

Thank You!

You are welcome.

When the server was first built with SBS 2003, was it running stable?

The Collect Server Performance Data is supposed to be running every hour. It then flags issues and fires an email off to whomever is managing the server.

This might be indicative of a deeper problem with the server, especially if the stalls when the reports were running are a recent phenomena.

Hi Phillip,
It was running ok at first. Unfortunatly we are still having the problem with the server.
