i have outlook 2002 but received a .msg file via usb stick which i am unable to open.  when i try it says:

outlook cannot open this message. a newer version, such as outlook 2003 or later, is required to open this message.

is there any way i can open this without ouflook 2003 and view and print the content?

this is so urgent and i would appreciate any quick replies.

You could save the original in a different format, like .txt or html format, which should open ok for you, but typically, an old version doesn't know what the new version is, so forward versioning is not supported.  I am surprised though, as I figured .msg would be something that could go back and forth without incident.

IF you absolutely need to view this message, you could have someone with 2003 open and print it for you.

Just to be a bit clearer on the answer to this question, for the archives...

The message formats in Outlook 2002 and Outlook 2003 are different.  In Outlook 2003, messages are saved in Unicode format so Outlook 2002 and below are unable to read/open those messages.
