I have installed a virtual server and created a virtual machine on that. Then i added a windows server 2003 R2 enterprise edition (with service pack 1) vhd to it.
Without giving product key to it , it got activated. It works fine for now. But the problem is ....
when we logon to the Virtual machine then on its desktop (bottom right corner) it shows a ....

Windows Server 2003,Enterprise Edition
Evaluation Copy. Build 3790 (Service Pack 2)

Here it says evaluation copy and when i try to activate windows from ...
Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools -->Activate Windows
here it says "windows is already activated.Click OK to exit."

1) My question is  why it is saying evaluation copy when the windows says it is activated?
2) How can i change product key?
(we have a subscribed product key from microsoft)
i been to this link but its not working
3) If i give the same product key will it work?

If this is the Microsoft VHD Download center VHD then this is normal.

All evaluation version of Microsoft products are retail versions. All retail version of Microsoft's product needs to be activated.

    1) So, even evaluation version of windows 2003 needs activation.
    2) I guess you downloaded this VHD from microsoft's that case it comes pre-activated with evaluation version of windows. If not, then you might have installed an evaluation version of windows 2003.

    3) you can't switch from evaluation version of windows 2003 to licensed version of windows 2003.
    4) If you just need to change the key of windows(which will definitely require activation for retail version of products), you can use
    5)You can't change key for windows 2003.
