Could not locate a Java Virtual Machine

On my Windows Server 2000 machine I get a message at startup, "Missing JVM, Could not locate a Java Virtual Machine".

I've removed all versions of Java from the server, re-installed from, under the Java settings in the control panel, the Java tab, I've checked the paths as well which are valid.

Has anyone else had this problem?
Thank you!

What is it you are trying to run that causes this?  You don't say...

Did you install the JDK, or the JRE?

I'm sorry! It's at the startup of the server, you have to click OK on the message then you can do the normal CTRL+ALT+DEL to log into the server...

    Accepted Solution

    this means
there is a service in the windows services (available in controlpanel), which is trying to locate a pirticular JVM at a pirticular location, which is not available or uninstalled.

identify that service, double click on it and disable it or change it from automatic to manual. thats will not get that message again
