Problems deleting mail off Exchange server when using Entourage and Apple Mail

I have a MacBook Pro with OSX 10.4.10.  I also have an Exchange 2003 server for mail.  I am running Apple Mail, Entourage, and the Outlook Web Access (OWA) client to check mail.  Here is the problem...

When I delete a message using Apple Mail or Entourage on the MacBook it appears to delete properly.  However, it is not actually being deleted off the Exchange server itself.  If I want to delete it off the server, I have go use the OWA client and delete it that way.  It's almost like there is a delete command that is not being interpreted properly on the Exchange server.  Is there any way to have items deleted in Entourage and/or Apple Mail also be deleted from the Exchange server?

Has anyone experienced anything like this before?
Thank you in advance for your help and suggestions!

There is a setting in Mail for Exchange accounts to "Store deleted messages on the server". You want to uncheck this box.

Go to Mail/Preferences/Accounts/

Click on Exchange Account, Click on "Special Mailboxes" Tab. You should find the setting at the bottom.

I'll give that a shot!  Sounds like it should work.  Thank you, MMConsultant, I should be able to let you know the results sometime today.

MMConsultant,

Unfortunately, that did not work.  Unchecking that box only created a new deleted items folder in Mail and just moved the items I wanted to delete into that folder instead of actually deleting them off the mail client AND the Exchange box at the same time...  :-(

But, maybe we're getting close.  Any other suggestions, anyone?

No problem, I appreciate the help.  The article describes the problem I'm having perfectly...  The article suggests 3 things to fix the issue:

1) Update the Exchange server with a patch.  This patch was loaded on long ago, so that rules out that fix.

2) Delete the mail using the Mail.app in OSX...  Unfortunately, the problem, for me, exists in Mail as well as Entourage.

3) I will try the suggestion of holding down Control while Synching and let you know how it goes.

Thanks!

Sorry that took so long to get back.  That didn't work either...  With the exception of logging into the Exchange box with Outlook and deleting the messages that way...  I was really really hoping to avoid that.

Thanks,
Mike

Just an update - I'm going to try that auto accept thing Monday morning when I reboot our Exchange server.  I'll let you know how it went.  Thank you again for the help and patience.

OMG - sorry I forgot about this for so long!  I actually haven't tried out the fix because it's a bit more time consuming than I have time for.  However, I'm sure this solution will work.  I will award the points assuming this will take care of the problem.  Sorry for not writing back in so long.
