wireless mouse on usb port

on a laptop, there is a cordless logitech mouse, which is not working, I reinstalled the sfw, when I plug it in the usb port windows (xp) says "found new hardware" but then nothing happens, there is this mouse icon in the tray, which opens the control panel, but when I go to the port setting it shows ps2, and when I select usb, and apply, when I close it returns to ps2.

Thank you.

When you use wireless mouse or keyboard there is usually a "Connect" button on the bottom of the mouse and keyboard. There should also be a Connect button on the USB central point. If you press the connect button it will try and detect itself and should work. If this doesn't work for you what you might want to do is uninstall the software unplug the mouse then reinstall the software without the mouse connected then reboot and connect the mouse.

Hope this helps
I think the above is on the spot. The touchpad (assuming the laptop has one, or a touchstick) is normally a PS/2 device and it will revert to that if no USB mouse is found.
have you tried connecting it to other USB ports?

Yes, have tried all of them.

Well I had to uninstall and reinstall 3 times ... bah.

I guess Spec01 gets them as he mentioned the reinstall, though I had done it before posting here, and redone after posting ... so ... better luck next time to rid and ilovemykeyki

Thank you all.
Glad you resolved it. :)
