What server plan you choose depends entirely on what software the site is built on (PHP/ASP/JSP/CF/etc), and how much traffic you anticipate receiving.

If this is for a personal website, your best bet is to go with the cheapest virtual host you can find.

For a listing of rated web hosts, go here:

Good luck in your search

This is completely buit in java. So i have JSP's.  This is not my personla website. This is commercial website and i am expecting traffic will grow slowly.  Do you have any suggestions ?

If you're going to grow slowly, you could start with a VPS and move up to a dedicated server once the demand requires it.

A hosting company I've been working with for almost a decade is Carpathia: www.carpathiahost.com

Usually, VPS setups will have 'unlimited' bandwidth.
Disk space for websites... depends on what's on your site. anything over 50MB should be more than enough for a simple web app to a semi-complex site

Thanks for the response

What is VPS and how can i setup this ? Or  do the Hosting providers setup this for me ?

VPS = Virtual Private Server

Meaning you'd be on a shared hosting plan (many customers on one server), but you would have your own OS & software installs, so it would act like a dedicated server without having to pay for a dedicated server.

This way, if you wanted to change a configuration setting in Apache (or IIS) you could.

For that, go to carpathia's sister site: www.prohosters.com

The host will take care of (almost) everything for you and they have 24 hour online support, and their staff is always extremely helpful.

1.  You do NOT need dedicated.  Virtual is FINE for a beginning website, and a LOT cheaper as well
2.  Normal diskspace for a website is 20 to 100 MB -- you want about 200-500 MB of bandwidth per month, you will probably not use this, so monitor the monthly usage, scale it back if you don't need that much.
3.  Go daddy is NOT a recommended site, their servers are too slow from advertising.  They are expensive, there are LOTS of other webhosts to choose.  You should be able to get a single site hosted for $69 per YEAR and get 99% uptime, if you look around.

Thanks for the message ..

in My site uses can upload their photos and i am storing them in file system. In this does 100MB is not enought . How much space do i need to have them  ? And do you have any wesites hoster that you aware of with good uptime  as you indicated above ?

User uploads change the entire scenario, you should have said this up front.

It totally depends on how much uploading people do.  There is no hoster out there who will give you truly "unlimited" bandwidth.  If you can find it, you will pay thousands of $$ per month.  Rethink your question.

Unlimited bandwidth does not need to be expensive.

Consider this Dedicated server solution from ThePlanet:

Intel Celeron Series - 2.0+      Intel Celeron 2.0GHz+      80GB Hard Drive      512 MB RAM      750 GB      Transfer       $69.0

For unlimited Bandwidth, Network will be capped to 10 mbits / sec (dedicated to you not shared) for $50 per month extra.

The best way to know how much transfer you will need is monitor it once the site is up. ThePlanet has great Real time Graphs (RTG) and estimate the amount you will use per month. It can even send you reports daily, weekly etc.

Unlimited 10 mbit can be added later if you need it. But since its only $50 bucks I would go for it to be sure I dont get charged for overages.
