Where can I hire someone to set up my server?

I have a server in my house running CentOS 5 that I want to set up with an Sql-Ledger accounting system.  It uses PostgreSql.  I would like to hire someone to set up my server correctly and securely.

Does anybody know how to hire someone like this.  It would all be done remotely.  Also, there would have to be some kind of means to verify that this person could be trusted.

Is there someplace like rent-a-coder only for IT people?

Any insights appreciated.

Thanks,
Frank

Staffing agency, or if you're in the vicinity of a University with a decent computer science program, call their work-study office.  As for verifying that the person could be trusted, that's down to the interview, asking for references, performing a background check, same as if you were hiring for any other position.

LauraEHunterMVP,

Hi, thanks for the response.  I am not near a university, unfortunately.  I was wondering if there is someplace like rent-a-coder where professional IT guys who want some side work offer their services.  Such a place might require bonding or possibly just via established reputation and peer ratings an assessment of reliability and trustworthiness could be established.

I don't even know if such a place exists.

Thanks,
Frank

Hi, ibanja.

Advertising is prohibited on EE. So any answer to your question may be considered as an ad. You have chosen a wrong place to hire remote administrator. You may solve technical problems here, but not hire an expert ;-)

If moderators will be so kind to not remove my comment, I know at least 3 places where I _know_ you may find very good Unix experts (in the order of my personal preference):

1) http://www.farpost.com/com/ (8 years in outsourcing, very responsible, cisco and Unix staff).

2) http://www.ot.ru/eng.html (very big IT company, I worked there. They have outsourcing administration department, and they where specialized on ERP systems, however not Sql-Ledger, but Oracle E-buisness Suite. But their price probably will be quite big).

3) On EE. Since Sql-Ledger is written on Perl + Postgres. You may search for top experts in Perl or Postgres areas. Usually they leave email in profile, so you may contact them. What about 'trust', before any work, they should sign an NDA (non-disclosure agreement), so you will be protected.

Nopius,

Thank you very much.  That is what I was looking for.

I didn't even think about the advertising aspects.  Nor was I looking to hire directly from EE.  I just looked at this as the perfect place to find out how to go about this.

Thanks for the response.
