In a VB.Net Windows app, I want to display a picturebox containing an animated gif while the app is doing some crunching and populating diffferent controls on the form.  I am unsure of  how to display the picture box in a seperate thread so that the gif can do it's animation without freezing.

    Accepted Solution

The PictureBox has to stay on the main UI thread...that's where it belongs.

"while the app is doing some crunching"

The "crunching" is what needs to be placed into another thread...thus leaving the GUI able to do things like display animated GIFs.
