what is proper .NET product to learn?

I'm going to buy software to learn .NET.

I am considering
1) Microsoft Visual Studio 2005
2) Microsoft Visual Studio .NET Professional

Is "1" a .NET product?  I have  been doing  a job that uses Linux and Qt and therefore I'm very ignorant of .NET.   I don't even know if there is a short answer to my question.  If there is, please tell me the answer.

you want 2005 for 2.0 projects.  You can't do 2.0 projects on .net pro (it's visual studio 2002).

I would simply go to microsoft and download visual studio express to learn .net for free.  Or download the 60 day free trial of the full version and use that until you decide if you want to invest in the full version.

Hi dwcronin;

Yes item 1 is a .Net Product. Here is a link to the different product that Microsoft publishes, "Visual Studio 2005 Product Line Overview"

Item 2 will also be found in the above link.

Here is a link to the Free do download .Net Products.

The express version/free is not the complete product but it will allow you to test drive the produce.

Free is a great price to pay!!!  :)

I didn't know that I could get a trial edition like that.  You both saved me about $600.

Thank you
