Unable to get dual monitors to work in Windows 2000

I would like to use dual monitor mode in Windows 2000. However, only one of the monitors is working. The other one just displays a message stating "Check Signal Cable"  on the screen.

The connections seems to be fine. What should I do to get it to work?

    Accepted Solution

Step 1 - Check that you computer recognizes your dual monitor capability...
Right click anywhere on your desktop - click properties...
    GO to the seetings tab.

In the window you should see pictorial representations of two monitors in a grey box that says "Drag the monitor icons to match the physical arrangement of your monitors"

One of the monitor icons may be greyed out - if this is the case, then click on the icon for it and then check the box "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor"

Click apply and monitor should start.

    if this doesn't work...

If you only see one monitor icon in diplayproperties>Settings, then Windows does not know about your additional video card or second video adapter on the same card.  In this case you need to check your drivers.

If you see both, and neither is greyed out, then it looks like windows is seeing both - try your main monitor in the connector for the other monitor....  If this still doesn;t work - can you confirm your hardware a bit more - are you using DVI or VGA (or a DVI adapter).  Some video cards come with a vga port and a dvi port - but the DVI is digital only (DVI-D) - even though it has a socket that will take a DVI-VGA adapter - you need to check your video card spec

    GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!
