It's possible there is a network drive in their search path that is dead/disconnected - check to make sure all the file mappings are 'live.'

Have you gotten anywhere in solving your problem?

It may be a problem with user authentication on your server.
Try logging out and logging back in, then check the access again.

On the hardware side, have you check to make sure all your switches and routers are active - a failing switch or router could cause major traffic bottlenecks.
