Regarding Wireless Security - just make sure WPK encryption is enabled on the router and on your Wireless adapter.

Regarding You Neighbough - make sure you set a strong administrator password on your computer and your trust your neighbough explicitly, because once you connect to their router you are on their network and your PC can be viewed by any one of their PC's so long as they have the appropriate credentials.

Install a strong firewall on your PC and make sure it blocks inbound connections even from internal addresses.

I know what you are saying and i did answer your question. If you connect to another persons network then your PC and what you do on your PC is open to attack from any other PC on that network. If you do not secure your PC correctly then all your files, folders and history can be viewed. Also most routers have a log on them, therefore if you are browsing website through that router, each website you visit will be logged.

Does this make it a little clearer. Shout me if you need anything else.

it depends, if your neighbor is just a plain old user and just installed a wireless access point by default then nothing to worry about...but if your neighbor is a super user aka hacker, then there's a great risk that you're computer will be hacked.

Do you have permission to use this connection and does the ISP involved allow distribution of their service via their consumers? This question seems to toe up to the line of how to steal wifi access. If not and the facts are different, my apologies. But you may want to review the EE membership agreement on acceptable topics/questions.

anyway.  I now have the mac filter enabled and no one else can connect to my network without their mac adderss on the list.    Now how can people see what im doing?  I dont have it encrypted so it is possible for them to see what im doing.  But i sdont know how they can see that.

they can see what you're doing if you didnt assigned an IP address to your modem or router. i.e. 192.168.1.1 and if you didnt assgned a password.
