vb .net 2005 filesystemwatcher to view/monitor ftp directory/site?

is there a way to use filesystemwatcher to monitor an ftp direcotry/site like yo would a local drive?

    you would have to refresh the dir contents of the ftp server every X seconds and compare it to the last scan.

    unless you can run filesystemwatcher on the actual server machine, but im assuming you cant.

    so bsically, log to the system.  use timer, and keep track of files (based on my criteria)?
