DNS Issues

Hi Experts,

We have an ongoing problem on our site. Very frequently I will ping a host name lets Say "Ping PC-A" and get a responce "Reply From 105.123.10.6" . If I then i try "NBTSTAT -a 105.123.10.6" I get back different host name "PC-B". If I call the user of PC-A and get him to do an IPCONFIG he will give me a Different IP that responds fine to a ping as long as I use the IP only. But this problem will also happen if PC-A is offline I will get a reply from a wrong IP instead of a Requst Time out. Seems like a DNS problem but not sure how to resolve it.

Any Ideas?

if you remove an ip address from an active pc that still was in scope then the ip address will still be assigned on the dns server

But if its still assined on the DNS server I thought it shouldnt be re-assigned to a different PC.

This happens all the time is there a way to stop it? Shouldnt the DNS be updated as soon as the IP is leased to another Client?

IanThCommented:
well its down to what your lease is set to so in future use a shorter lease time
