Email delivery problem

We had a user from the outside that had sent an email to our company but it never got delivered and was bounced back to him with the following error message -

451 4.4.1 reply: read error from OUR MAIL SEVER
... Deferr ed: Co nnection timed out with
Warning: message still undelivered after 4 hours Will keep trying until
message is 5 days old

The same user was able to send email to a differnet company addrees the day before, the same day and the day after so it must have been something to do with the particular email??

Is the above error due to a problem on our end or on their end? Our mail servers are BSD boxes running Postfix.
Thank for any help you can offer.

can you get teh administrator to telnet from his relay server to yours and send an email via telnet to your relay server

Here is an example of using telnet to test SMTP mail flow between sites and organisations
telnet xxx.com  25 (xxx= servername or domainname)
Connected to mail.somedomain.com.
220 mail.somedomain.com ESMTP Exim 4.04 Wed, 13 Nov 2002 16:27:42 -0700
HELO mail.someotherdomain.com
250 mail.somedomain.com Hello mail.someotherdomain.com []
MAIL FROM:Jim@xxx.com (xxx = domainname)
250 OK
RCPT TO:Joe@xxx.com (xxx = domainname)
250 OK
354 Enter message, ending with "." on a line by itself
Subject:Telnet Message
This is a test message.
250 OK: queued as 18C6vd0005Ey-00
221 mailhub.somedomain.com closing connection
Connection closed by foreign host
