HP 4005 duplex printer

I have an HP LaserJet CP4005 printer with duplexing capabilities. I can not get the printer to duplex. I can not find anysetting on the printer menue to set it to duplex. I went in on the printer setup on the computer it's installed on and set it to 'print on both sides. Also I found in the preferences that it said Duplex not installed. the 'not installed' had a drop down and the other option was 'installed'. I set it to say duplex installed. Applied the settings, but nothing happened. Still printes on two pages instead of front and back. What can I do?

Please verify that your model actually came with the duplexer.  That model number should be CP4005dn if that is the case.

When you mentioned going to "print setup" and finding the preferences was this in the Printers folder or from the Print dialog box?  This setup should be done in the Printers folder in Windows.  Make sure you go to the Printers folder (i.e. from Control Panel in Windows) and access the properties by right mouse clicking on the printer.  Look for a tab called Device Settings.  If you see it click on it and do you see an area for Installable Options.  HP usually uses that area to show the options, like duplexing, that are available.  Look for Duplex Unit and make sure it has Installed selected.  If not change it.

The exact wording and steps can differ depending on your OS and the printer.  I did not have a CP4005dn printer driver to look at but the steps are pretty common in HP models.  Let me know if you can't find exactly what I mentioned or have a question.

Do you have the latest driver for that printer and model?  The right driver usually, especially from HP, comes with the options setup.

Let me know how this helps or if you have a question.

As stated above you have to have the CP4005dnto be able to do automatice duplex printng. If you have the C4005n it will duplex but supports only manual duplexing via software. In other words the CP4005n will duplex but you have to print the first side and then remove and place the printed sheets back into the manual feed tray to print the other side.

Please confirm the model you have.  The model with the second tray (CP4005dn) does support automatic duplexing.  The other 2 models (CP4005n and CP4005 [as Hladamjr mentioned]) are not automatic.
