Outlook 2003 not updating emails until send/recieve manually done.

Hi,

I have started having a problem with Outlook 2003 syncing emails with exchange 2003. Emails do not arrive at the client unless send/receive is manually selected. If I restart the information store service, eveything works fine. This has started happening most mornings so I believe it is something to do with our backup happening in the night. We use the following.

Exchange 2003
Windows 2003 SBS
Veritas 10.0
Nortons Corporate edition.

The event logs are showing nothing related to this problem. Problem started about 2 weeks ago.

Thanks in advance.

Yes out look is showing as connected.

Are you cached mode? I've seen this previously in that mode and we think (never proofed it) that Outlook was thinking it was up to date. Removing that tick got us going again.

What does it mean to be "Always On"?

Is your cloud always on? With an Always On cloud you won't have to worry about downtime for maintenance or software application code updates, ensuring that your bottom line isn't affected.

The machines are in cache mode but they need to stay like that as several users have laptops. But you are right the outlook clients seem to think they are already up to date and it is not till you manually select send/receive that you realize that it is not syncd. I find it strange that this problem only happens sometime in the night and never during the day.

Thanks for the help so far.

You could delete the .ost file. That helped for a little while but didn't resolve it completely for us. Our environment is weird so it may work for you.

Thanks for the reply. I ended up running an offline defrag of the database and this fixed the problem.
