I recently switched from Exchange and moved our mail offsite to a Pop mail system.  Our Pop mail now goes through a Spam Filter mail server.  I can send an email from this pop account to another one I have not being filtered and receive message.  When I click yes on the return delivery receipt message. I get this error message.

"The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'user1@spamfiltered.com'. Subject 'Read: Testing Delivery Receipt 5', Account: 'mail.spamfiltered.com', Server: 'mail.nonspamfiltered.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 not local host spamfiltered.com, not a gateway', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79"

Using SSL on the spamfilter account for incoming (995) and outgoing (465) servers.

The company hosting our mail server and doing spam filter told me to use these settings but says the
delivery receipts are a client problem, any help would be great.

This isn't really a solution to your problem but just a recommendation for a spam filtering service.  The founder of the company gave a presentation to our networking group in SF last month and it was very impressive.  It's pretty inexpensive too.

A side benefit will be that it will resolve your problem with your current Spam Filtering company.

Can't really do that, I have the same spam filtering for 10 different companies and only having problem with this one, If I were to guess , I would say the SSL or the Spam filter itself is blocking the return message , not sure which, I would like to hear from an EXPERT! :)

Check to see if the user has their Ougoing Server set to require authentication.

Sorry I was assuming that the user was having problems sending all mail.  Are they using OE or Outlook?

I was sending a message using Outlook 2003 , received message in Outlook Express, Click yes on read receipt and then got the error message as soon as the automatically generated read receipt tried to go out.   In the error message  Port: 25, Secure(SSL , I know the Outook uses 465 and 995 for SSL.  The outlook express account is a regular pop account not using SSL.    Not sure what the not a gateway' part of the message is about.

This Microsoft KB article talks about the Outgoing Server authentication for OE.

Is the OE account your sending the reply from on the same domain as the filtered account.

This doesn't really solve my larger problem but did address this area , not sure how I overlooked this but my SMTP server did require authorization, I will try to re-word my larger issue and submit as new question , thanks for you help.
