Hi,

I have a SCX-4521F Samsung Printer. I want to send the printer a "warm-up" signal in advance when I know I am about to print. This will eliminate me having to wait for the printer to warm up before the first page comes out.

Does anybody know if this is possible, and how so? I have programming experience, I just need a nudge in the right direction.

The SCX-4521F is a GDI printer, with all intelligence located in the PC itself. It only understands very specific data and I don't know what will happen if you send the printer an invalid job.

Just try sending it a few random characters and see what happens. Being GDI based, random characters are completely meaningless to the printer, and it should ignore them, while the transmission should wake it.

I don't know how it is connected, but for the parallel port you can use the DOS command "COPY CON LPT1". If you're using USB, then the same command can still be used, after you share the printer and use the DOS command "NET USE LPT1: \\computername\printername".

Let me know what happens if you try it.
