connection dsl model

i have a network that we have a full t1 etc. but we also have business dsl line that comes in. I recieved the modem plugged it in an dthen plugged it it to teh patch panel that routed to my office to test the connection. it is not working any help would be great really do not want to call verizon if I do not have to thanks

All your internet traffic should more than likely be routed to the T1. If you want to test the DSL circuit thats plugged into your network you would need to change to an IP address of the DSL circuit and point your default gateway to the DSL router.

Now does your DSL router do DHCP? If so having that enabled and plugged into the rest of your network may/will cause problems confusing workstations of where they are connecting to. But on your machine you should be able to setup a 2nd IP address and gateway to test.

it is not plugged ito a router it is the modem and tehn from there to a patch panel that is to my office so it is seperate not on the actual network. I thought yuo could plug right ito a meodem and get to teh inetnet

i got the info but they want me to put a subnet mask in as 255.255.255.248 but vista will not let me put that any ideas?
