Running Hyperterminal commands via website...

Showing my ignorance here...

Is it possible to send AT commands via a web page or do they make a Hyperterminal control that can be used via the web? can someone enlighten me on what might be involved in something of this nature and what the difficulty would be in designing a web page for that purpose?

Thanks.

You can replace the "hello world" with the "AT" commands...This is a serial port AcitveX control.

NO!!  A web page is not permitted to gain access to a local machine, so to allow a web page to manipulate ports on a local computer is a TOTAL violation of the  "sandbox" rules restricting websites from destroying the data on local computers.

So, then the company that created the ActiveX control that can do it are violating some important rules. Considering that this type of thing already happens with people writing malicious applets that end up "destroying the data on local computers" what is the harm in someone doing something that is not malicious? Also, note that the ActiveX control will only run on Windows boxes. So, if you wanted something that would run on any local machine, this is not a potential solution for you. Since the author mentioned Hyperterminal, I assumed the Windows platform.

Thanks guys for the posts.

I think this project may die since it will also require VPN and would need to be automated as well...
