Description:
This is an SMTP protocol log for virtual server ID 1, connection #8. The client at "216.199.50.66" sent a "xexch50" command, and the SMTP server responded with "504 Need to authenticate first ". The full command sent was "xexch50 2828 2". This will probably cause the connection to fail.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, we did restart a few times during the past weeks and it come back with the similar errors on the application eventlog. Thanks for your help.

The relay isn't. If you have a gateway server (anti-spam box, or anything that can do LDAP lookups) then you can even prevent these idiots from connecting.
The 2003 event is most likely some perfmon based utility that is not acting right. Was something installed to track server performance? That is the most likely culprit.
