a network problem

I am trying to connect my mac laptop to my windows vista desktop computer which has internet access.  The mac laptop is currently connected to internet through the desktop computer and a wireless dlink router.  How do I get both of these computers to see each other on a home network?  Thanks,

I belive you need to use samba for file sharing between a mac and pc
