Recovering or changeing Win 2003 admin password

Hi , i read other posts on changing/recovering domain admin password , i am able to boot in to directory services restore mode , i downloaded SRVANY and INSTSRV from microsft and used the instructions from petri , manually following,what i noticed was when i did this and rebooted normally i was getting a error saying certain service did not start so i thought it was the password recovery service, so i downloaded the script from petri and ran this but i am still getting the service not started error when i try to log in normally with the password i changed to ? it's not letting me logon. the new password works ok when i log in hje directory services restord mode F8,
has anyone got any ideas cheers or is it a server rebuild :-(  thanks
PS  this is a test server and domain/network i use for testing and studying. This problem seemed to occur when i was messing about with Group policys , i know for a fact that i did change the log on locally and the local password for certain machines on my network,
Is there any way to reset GPO's without knowing the domain admin password. Thanks again !!

        Hi jamster69
               *Did you copy cmd.exe in that temp folder too??
               *Use a password which meets the password complexity policy which may be enabled. For example passWord1234
               *Although I encountered the "service did not start etc" pop up in past, my password was reset successfuly

         "the new password works ok when i log in hje directory services restord mode" That cant be possible because restore mode password and domain admin password are different things. Make sure you typed the /domain key (that is not /Yourdomainname, simply type /domain) in following value

name: AppParameters
type: REG_SZ (string)
value: /k net user administrator passWord1234 /domain

Hi Steve thanks for your reply , as i stated i have looked at other posts , also before i came to post on Experts Exchange i had followed the instructions by Petri, i done it manually and by using the script. I also have the latest Himens disk which is used to gain the local admins password.
Are the links on the petri site for password recovery software just for the local password if so as stated i have already got this using the Himens disc cheers, any other ideas are most welcome thanks

Hi Mr husy let me understand this when i edited the script at this part so it was for example

value:/k net user administrator newpassword1234 /domain

value:/k net user administrator newpassword1234 /mydomain    ?

I did copy the cmd.exe to c:\tmp and used a complex password thanks for you reply

value:/k net user administrator newpassword1234 /domain              ->WRONG!
value:/k net user administrator newpassword1234 /mydomain         ->WRONG!
value:/k net user administrator newPassword1234 /domain              ->CORRECT! (use a captilat letter in password)

Hi Mr Husy yes i know that the local and domian passwords are diiferent when i used the himens disc it leaves the ocal password blank but when i reboot in to direct services recovery and use a blank password it defo dosnt let me logon but defo lets me in using the new password that i used for the domain , unless i also changed the local password to the same one as the domanni one which there is a dstinct possiablity.
i am going to start agian witht Himens disc get the local password changed to blank logon F8 active dir restore mode , use the petri script and see what happens cheers
This is what i changed the script to

   If you can find ERD Commander 2005, it can successfully reset it
