I am trying to export form Windows mail on Vista64 to Oultook 2003 on the same machine and I get an error initialising MAPI
Whenever I try and export from Windows Mail to Outlook 2003 I get the "an error occurred whilst initialising MAPI" - not that useful as error messages go. I have Googled it to death and ended up subscribing here in an effort to get it solved. Most googles turn up wiht the problem presented the other way with peeps trying to go from Outlook to Windows Mail. Any help would be appreciated. Regards, rafkid
Make sure you have created your Outlook mail account first? If you don't have an Exchange account or PST file setup in Outlook you won't be able to initialize anything.

Thanks both for getting back to me so promptly. Neither solution worked totally although the second may well be the way forward - I managed to import an old set of messages. Stupidly I cannot find where windows Mail stores it's default file folder! Aaaaaaaaaaaargh. My frustration buildeth amighty. I shall keep looking tomorrow - sadly it is after midnight here and it is time I hit the sack.

the bitdaddy software does the job - not brilliantly as they have put irritating reminders to buy it as part of the solution - but at $12 it is worth it. Thank you both for assisting. It really deserves to be fixed so that it simply works as an export function from windows Mail - Microsoft should fix it. I will see if I can post there as well.
