Can you image a hard drive from a bootable CD using symantec ghost

I need to image a hard drive that won't boot.  I need to recover one partition.  I want to dump a ghost image onto a Western digial external hard drive, like World Book.  How do I do this with Norton Ghost 12.0  ???

If the ghost 12 you have is bootable cd, then boot system with it, and starting ghost wizard, you should clone disk to disk, and do not assign drive letter if later you want to boot that cloned drive on same system.

As an alternative you can use Acronis Migrate Easy free trial (works for 15 days) but it really easy to use.  I liked it so much I purchased a copy.  You download, install, then using the program create a bootable CD.  Then boot from it and clone your drive or partition.

I hope this helps.

I have no experience with Ghost 12. For earlier versions, you create a bootable CD with burning software and copy ghost.exe to CD.

Punky thanks for the help.  I did not have Ghost on CD last night when I wrote this.  So I went out and bought it this morning.  When I boot the laptop to the CD, there are many tools.  But none seem to indicate "clone" operation.  Although I did not drop to the command shell and try to type ghost.exe.  But I am able to see all my data and AM able to copy to an external hard drive (Western Digital World Book, 500 Gig drive).   If you can verifty the steps I need to take to get a clone of my hard drive or partitions it will be appreceieated.

If the CDis no bootable, then you will have to create floppy ghost disc. Use other computer, install Ghost 12, then run ghost disk wizard to create floppy. Then, insert floppy in the system (set boot order to start from Floppy first in bios), then following steps on screen. The only different ghost 12 to older versions is ghost works on Vista, other options are same.

Instead to write down, please visit this website below and you might find your own experiences about ghost wizard:
