IIS Indexing Services and Search Capability

Hi All,

We need to provide the search functionality of the static HTML pages of an internet website using ASP.NET, the search functionality will be similar to what is done in this website(http://www.scottish.parliament.uk/sch/advanced).  IWe are thinking of going for IIS Indexing Services. We  wanted to know whether  IIS Indexing Services can provide this type of search functioanlity or not?

Thanks,
Lilu

Hi Bob,

Thanks for your response.

I'm searching through the files(MS office anf PDF files), can you please let me know if there is any limitation of using IIS indexing compare to any other search engine available in market(like google search appliance) in terms of performance, features?

Thanks in advance,
Lilu

Lilu,

I haven't used the IIS indexing enough to provide that kind of detail.  I have done a lot, though, with Full Text searching.

Do you know how to set up and use IIS indexing services?

Bob,

Yes I know how to setup and use Indexing services, also there are many technical articles available in internet for the same, but I'm worried about the performance and load on web server when the indexing service runs in production web server. None of the articles talk about this.

Any link/url with  respect to this will be helpful

Thanks,
Lilu
While I don't know of anything that describes Indexing Services to that degree, I do know of ways to optimize the service:
