Outlook 2003 will not print emails -" The message interface has an unknown error."

I am having a problem with an XP Prof laptop running MS Office 2003 and trying to print from Outlook. This started after I had firstly installed Office 2007 only to find it was not compatible with ACT 6 so un-installed MS office 2007 and re-installed Office 2003. The printing problem started then.
Office 2003 was a new install with new product key.
I can print from Word or other MS Office programs but cannot print an email from Outlook. We use a networked printer. I have tried turning off printing calendar as someone else suggested on this site.
The message I get is "The message interface has returned an unknown error". I have also tried restartiing Outlook as the message also advises and no better.
Could it be something to do with Outlook 2003 and 2007 getting confused? I also tried deleting all instances of Office 2007 in the registry left after the uninstall.
Thanks for your help.

Hi,

I think this may be an issue with the version of MAPI32.DLL.  Find all locations of this file on your system.  Rename them to MAPI32.BAK, then put the version that came with Office 2003 in the c:\windows\system32 folder.

Then, to be sure everything is registered right, not just MAPI32.DLL, open a command prompt and run system file checker by typing  SFC /SCANNOW and pressing Enter.  Make sure you have your Windows install CD handy for this command since it will ask for it.

Good Luck,

Hi
Unfortunately after doing what you suggested, it did not change anything. The scan went ok and did not ask for the CD at all.
I have now noticed that the printer type when clicking on PRINT under the file menu, shows that it is in fact trying to print to the Adobe PDF printer. Don't know why?
It is all greyed out and will not allow me to change the printer to the default network printer.
Could you please suggest how I do this as I think this is the problem, it is trying to print a memo style email to the PDF printer.
Thanks

Hi again

I figured out how to change the printer..the computer had the PDF Writer set as default under Printers and Faxes. Not sure how that happened (another person uses this laptop).
Anyway when set to default network printer, it still gives the same error message and will not print. It will not even do a print preview.
When I looked under event viewer (system), I get warnings every time you try to print in Outlook. Nothing under Application. The Event ID is 20 and message reads:
Printer Driver OKI C5100 for Windows NT x86 Version-3 was added or updated. Files:- IMFNT5.DLL, SDNT5OK.DLL, OPHCWDDM.SDD, OP51ENU.HLP, OPHCWNXS.DLL, OPHCWNXT.DLL, OP51ICB.BIN, OPUSB000.DLL, OPS00JPN.DLL, OPS00ENU.DLL, OPRCL000.DLL, OPDVA002.DLL, OPCST000.DLL, OPCLB002.DLL, OPHCRENU.DLL, OPHCSENU.DLL, OK001U3H.CAP, OK009U0H.CCM, OPNE000C.SCR, DCSTBL.DLL, DCS.DLL, ML51NSAR.DLL, OP5100.DAT, OPHCWS00.DAT, OPHCWM00.DAT, OPHCWINF.DAT, SQMCODER.DLL, IMF32.DLL, ZLANG.DLL, ZTAG32.DLL, ZENOICM.DLL, ZENOCMM.DLL, QDPRIOK.DLL, SDIMFOK.DLL, SDNTUM4.DLL, ZSPOOLOK.EXE, ZGDIOK.DLL, ZSPOOL.DLL, SROK.DLL, SDDMUK.DLL, SDDMOK.DLL, SDOK.DLL, OP5100.UNZ, OK7142HE.VER, OPHCWDUI.DLL, OPHCWDDM.DLL.
Now remember it will print ok in any other Office application and the Test Page comes out fine for this printer so not a problem with the printer specifically.
Hope you can help.

I have figured the solution out for myself. After looking around EE I found several things to try and the solution was to create another new Email Profile. It had 2 already there probably from the 2003 and 2007 Outlook installs. It must have been using the wrong one.
All is well now, thank you for your input.
