Compatable external LCD monitor for Sony VIAO VGN-SZ44GN

I am looking to buy a widescreen LCD for my Sony Viao which has a Nvidia GeForce Go 7400. Im looking at a 19" wide screen.  The specs of the laptop screen give resolution (max) 1,280 x 800.

But Im wondering how high an external monitor will go on it.

Most 19" wide screens seem to have a reccomended resolution: WXGA+ (1440 x 900).

Will my Sony be able to run this??. Specs as follows:
Graphics hardware
Amt of video RAM
319MB
 Diagonal screen size
13.3 inch

LCD technology
Transflective TFT (widescreen)
Screen resolution (max) 1,280 x 800

Most laptops will be able to run an external screen on a higher resolution than the internal screen can handle, but that should be in the unit's specification as it depends on the grahics chip (and its drivers) and not on the laptop's own screen. Running any LCD off its native resolution is very eye-and-headache inducing.
