Optical Drives Won't Open

I have an issue regarding the optical drives running on a Windows XP Home SP2 system.  When I first boot up the system, they optical drive doors open without a hitch.  However, after I read a disc, or burn a disc, neither optical drive door will open.  If I restart the PC, they open with no problem.

I've reinstalled the drivers for the drives and IDE controllers, to no avail.  I've also performed a BIOS update.  There are no viruses or spyware on the system.  Any ideas??

Run hijackthis and post the Log here. Probably there is some software running in the background like InCD or DirectCD or something else that is causing this, the log might help me find it.

run sfc /scannow from the run box
also, check what softwares are running, with task manager, or disable them at startup with msconfig from the run box.

I should explain that burning software has the ability to lock the drive from opening up prematurely so a bad burn doesn't take place due to a preemptive opening of the door. It may just be an issue of what version of burning software you are using as some are not compatible with XP.
Has this problem started after installing software or new hardware?

HotBurn and Roxio are on the machine, HotBurn is the one used

Have you been able to run hijackthis?

Did You install the complete Roxio, with the DirectCD part? Those utilities of burning Software that allows you to copy files directly to your optical media without using the full burning software could cause that. HotBurn I don't know, maybe it also has such an option. That's why the Log from above would interest me, it lists most things that are loaded at startup and that may help to find these things.

Try disabling the following:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Drag'n'Drop_Autolaunch] "C:\Program Files\Iomega\Iomega HotBurn Pro\Autolaunch.exe"

and if that doesn't help (after a restart), this one too:

O23 - Service: Iomega App Services - Iomega Corporation - C:\PROGRA~1\Iomega\System32\AppServices.exe

XP does not support EZCD creator 5.3.4

Is this a Dell computer, if so there is a patch for easy cd creator ver5.3.4 to upgrade it to a higher version because of issues with XP.

If this is not a Dell then scroll to the bottom of this page for the update for the basic version.
