Monitor DFSR Backlog with MOM 2005

I have a question regarding the monitoring of backloged files with DFSR.

We are currenlty using MOM 2005 and we wish to monitor the DFSR Replication backlog. Currenlty this is beign done using the dfsrdiag backlog command.

We wish to have an alert raised within MOM as soon as the backlog for any given conection exceeds 200 files. I have found a method in WMI (getDFSRBackloggedFileCount) which when called with VBScript retuns the number of backlogged files for a connection but I am unsure how to use this in MOM.

1) Can MOM run a method from WMI and alert based on the return variable from this method?
OR
2) Should a script be run on each server and log events to the event log so that MOM can then trigger allerts based on these events

I am hoping this can be configued from within the MOM Administrator consoe but so far i have only been able to configure MOM to create alerts based on WMI 'properties' and not methods.

Any help would be greately appreciated.

Would that be the same as "Replicated folder overlapping with other DFS Replication replicated folders"?

Hi,
Not sure what you are referring to when you say "Replicated folder overlapping with other DFS Replciation replciated folders". Are you referring to an event ID?

There are no folder overlaps whithin the replciation configuration. Just a single folder with two way replciation between a downstream server and a hub server in our core datacentre.

Hi,

Thanks for the response.

Sorry i should have mentioned that i have installed the DFSR managment pack and it doesn't include any rules to monitor the DFSR backlog which is why i was looking at creating a rule using WMI.

I can create a rule using a WMI property without issue but the backlog information is not stored in WMI as a property it is installed in the method (as mentioned above). So far i have not been able to get MOM to query a method and report on the results of this method..

Im sure there is a better way to do this but to date i haven't been able to find one...

I guess my only option is to use VBScript to query the method and output the results every hour to the event log, then MOM could pick up and montior these events.

I have now sorted this out by using a custom script.
