Open group policy Managment Console, right click on the GPO and select edit.

Createing a new GPO or editing your Default GPO modify

{User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu & Taskbar}

Enable this setting:
Disable and remove the Shut Down command

Hi, thanks for your quick response

sorry i should had been more clear, I only wish to take the shut down option away from our servers, Id also still like to beable to have the option of restarting the server from the drop down box.

on a side not, when you make chances to the Group policy, do they automatically get pushed out, (if so how long) or how do you push them out?

Thanks

No way that I know of without recoding explorer.exe to remove only the start(menu) shutdown and not both shutdowns.  I would recomend using the GPO as it will remove it from the start menu where you want it too, and then using a batch file to restart the server when you want to as oppose to the drop down crude I know but how bad do you want it off the start menu.  You can apply this via GPO to ONLY the machines you want to via the Delegation tab of the policy object, add the machines you want it and select apply policy.  The refresh interval is also a GPO setting so ideally you set the time frame at
 \\Computer configuration\Administrative templates\system\group policy\Refresh interval
or you may force it using gpupdate from a cmd shell.  gpupdate /? for all the options.
